Solo 5 : Warts and all....

Rushed this one cause I just wanted to get all 5 done before I take a break from the guitar.
But it's a good example of the weird, unwanted noise produced that you aren't even aware of til you hear it played back. Especially that weird "warble" produced as I go up the neck. This has been a great learning experience (recording and playing) and I'm anxious to move on to 5 More Easy Solos".

I like the little flourish at the end :) Very good. I hope you didn't rush through so quickly that you'll forget them quickly too. Especially solos 2 and 5 as they have classic blues licks that you can use and reuse all the time.

You've done a good job with the course. I don't know what your guitar background was before taking on this course but you've done it well. Congrats!

Playin' for the fun of it.
Oh that was good, phew how do you keep count of all those repeats. You doing really well with these solos. (y)

Nice. Have you been to the VJR yet? I think the folks down there would like to jam with you.

See you down the road!

....how do you keep count of all those repeats.

Listen to the bass player
backing you up. That's why he's there. He plays one note
every beat (1-2-3-4) way up front in the mix. Listen for the descending bass pattern whenever you're on the I Chord, especially when you start the double stops in the second chorus.

Bottom line? Listen to the bottom line.:sneaky:

Peace

Nice job, warble and all!

I figured out what the "warble is". Here's my first attempt, i.e. "Take 1".

https://www.4shared.com/mp3/QSTXGMrWba/EBS-Solo-5_Take_1.html

You can tell from the first chorus why I redid it. But the double stops are a bit "cleaner". And if you listen real close you hear a "pinging" sound that increases in pitch as I go up the neck. Especially on the last group of triplets.

That's my pick hitting the middle pickup! I'm playing right on top of it. Guess I need to move by hand a bit.

Lesson learned.:sneaky:

Peace

Does a solo count if I edit two parts together? (I wouldn't think of it. Oops. I just did.);)

Paleo -

What kind of guitar are you playing? Is it a Strat? Do the saddle height screws stick up past the saddles?

If it's a Strat: If you feel them on the side of your hand you may consider shimming the neck pocket to change the angle of the neck to get those saddles higher. I did this to a cheap Strat copy. Gave me much more room for my pick under the strings. My strings were really low. I was always hitting the pick guard between the neck and middle pickup.

See you down the road!

I don't mean to overwhelm you with stuff. Be strong and of good courage. I think it all ends when we die.

See you down the road!

Attempting the Blues
That was pretty aggressive- did you have a bad day at work? Someone you wanted to strangle and you took it out on your guitar? Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Hey Paul,

All my "early" attempts at recording were posted on the "old" 4 Shared site. Other members were having problems with that site so I switched to Dropbox. Then at some later point I got "discouraged" with the forum and pulled everything, kind of impulsively.

Anyway, here is a link to Solo #5 as discussed in this post (as it was at that time. Hopefully I've improved since then.)

Here's the same solo, with a little intro, over a track recorded in the Virtual Jam Room.

I was thinking of re-recording all of them. Maybe I'll do just that.

Thanks for the interest,
PB
