Prior to Griff's last Webinar I couldn't have done any of this.
After watching it on Friday morning I could.
So I tend to get a bit excited (and obsessed).
So what made the difference?
Well, there's a couple of ways to look at it.
Here's part of what Griff drew that night, the quarter notes on the lower.
I noticed you strike a note on beats 1 & 3, so there's not a note on the counts before or after those beats (since the note gets 2 counts).
Beats 2 & 4 you don't strike a note on the beat, but do on both the counts before and after. Just the opposite of the other 2 beats.
Another way to look at is that for beat 1 you don't play on the +, and for beat 2 you only play on the +.
So the notes count this way:
Note 1: 1+
Note 2: u2
Note 3: +u
Beats 3&4 repeat with 3&4 replacing 1&2:
Note 4: 3+
Note 5: u4
Note 6: +u
(If you can play the rhythm for the first 2 beats, you just keep repeating it.)
1+ u2 +u 3+ u4 +u = 1 u + 3 u +
Yes, it's pretty hard to explain in words, so........
If you're not easily offended by seeing an old guy slap his knees......

Oops!!! @4:02 should be "and uh", not "uh and". And about 5:35 every time I say "measure" I meant to say "Beat".
Other than that, I had a pretty good time.
