Tried to view my website http://www.artyman.co.uk earlier today and received the following message "support.google.com refused to connect." displaying a page logo with a no entry sign. Tried again just now and the same message. Had a look online and lots of references to Google Chrome setting, however I'm using Microsoft Edge, can anyone else see the site and what browser were you using, other than that .... help!!!

All good down here in Aus, Ken. Home Page loaded immediately, and the internal links all work.

Some VERY fine paintings in there:D:D

I'm using Mozilla Firefox Version 86 on Windows 10 Version 20H2.

Cheers,
Chris

I’m not sure how the problem got that way however what you might try doing is ensuring first off that any spyware malware program running in the background is turned off
The link to block all cookies is turned off
And that you’re not going through a third person router which requires a password
Just some suggestions if not please contact me I might have some other suggestions you might try
Good luck mate

I received the same message "support.google.com" refused to connect, using Chrome and Edge. Internet Explorer worked fine and I must say that you have a very fine collection f art, and a nice web site! By the way, I am a "train nut"! :) But I am indeed a happy nut - sometimes! :ROFLMAO:

Don't worry - the next update from Microsoft will fix everything - nothing will work!

Check if a site's connection is secure

To see whether a website is safe to visit, you can check for security info about the site. Chrome will alert you if you can’t visit the site safely or privately.

  1. In Chrome, open a page.
  2. To check a site's security, to the left of the web address, look at the security status:
    • KUCFEC5rWlZYX3_jKFm7JhCr3LhjvSCbnlnbz8lfFsqT9jyEzwiWF7FLKAgkrzUhdjg=w36-h36
      Secure
    • bxaoCUc_GdaCzDzU3navHJev-sG5Ffqk2FcnjY6GCDy6fs4aOnIxM2WpvYF1HQUxAeM=w36-h36
      Info or Not secure
    • IFnvUSEwUHO4ppdhra3qLp1qTqnrZduuMwft
      Not secure or Dangerous
  3. To see the site's details and permissions, select the icon. You'll see a summary of how private Chrome thinks the connection is.
What each security symbol means
These symbols let you know how safe it is to visit and use a site. They tell you if a site has a security certificate, if Chrome trusts that certificate, and if Chrome has a private connection with a site.

troubleshoot "Your connection is not private" errors.

What a security certificate is
When you go to a site that uses HTTPS (connection security), the website's server uses a certificate to prove the website's identity to browsers, like Chrome. Anyone can create a certificate claiming to be whatever website they want.

To help you stay on safe on the web, Chrome requires websites to use certificates from trusted organizations.

I have not created a website in years, but viewed some of the source code. How was your website created? Using what tools? Who did it?

Opened OK for me in Google Chrome.

Mine's an outdated version.

All home grown from environmentally sourced free range electrons using Notepad and basic HTML coding  It's nothing fancy just somewhere to show my artwork, if I use the actual host URL ( http://www.artyman.byethost18.com/ ) it loads OK, just that the domain URL gives the error. I don't have any security certificate and it's just http not https.

My other website www.jigsaw.me.uk displays fine with it's URL domain.

The first url just gives me a blank page...no error message. Nothing. The 2nd one gets to me artyman just fine (very nice!)... as well as jigsaw!
Hey, 2 outta 3 is pretty good considering you got it all the way to the west coast of the U.S. Amazing electrons!

Just tried chrome and it won't connect. Haven't some browsers been prevented from connecting to http sites. Wasn't there something on here a while back about changing the url to https as the http was being phased out?

cheers

Firefox's security options give you 3 choices for HTTPS only and if choosing HTTPS only it will still give you the option to open a HTTP
site at your own risk. Sounds like the Tech oligarchs aren't allowing users any options.

Nice site Arty, enjoyed the art!

Using Edge, the .com URL worked fine. The second site (UK) was blocked and gave this message:

Tried again this morning it was still doing the same thing, I'm wondering if it's something to do with the domain supplier, I'll see if anything changes later tomorrow when folk get back to work.

Hi Ken, I just looked in the Security Settings on my Firefox browser, and I found that there is a setting for "allow HTTPS ONLY". It's a fairly new addition to the Security settings. But it occurred to me that some browsers may have implemented that by default, without telling the users.

Here's the relevant bit on the Firefox Help:
Starting in Firefox version 83, you can change your preferences to HTTPS-Only Mode. This security enhancing mode forces all connections to websites to use HTTPS. Most websites already support HTTPS; some support both HTTP and HTTPS. Enabling this mode provides a guarantee that all of your connections to websites are upgraded to use HTTPS and hence secure. Learn more about the benefits and how to enable HTTPS-Only Mode.
