I’ve been playing with a buddy, he refuses to count. He’s been play for years and years. I’ve only been playing for a couple years. I still feel like a beginner. My buddy just can’t I understand why I can’t keep up. Do guys think I’m wasting my time trying to learn with this guy?

You are never wasting your time while playing. Especially when playing with better players, but the sad truth is that better players MAY get frustrated if you can't "keep up" .
I'd suggest trying to play something simpler. Maybe you are trying to play a solo that is so far out of your ability right now that it's going to be a while before you can play it without thinking about what you are playing. If comping is the problem, be sure to use "little chords" and simple comping patterns for now. Fancier/faster will come later.
