Good Job Russ! The counting out loud part is critical and it gets a lot tougher. It's been a problem for me forever!

Right on Russ!  I am also really focusing on counting out loud as I begin the ABGU lessons.  I'm also trying to do it with my electric BGU/SWS solos I'm working on, but as Chuck says, it gets very difficult. 

I find I am able to count internally pretty ok, at least I think so, most of the time, but when there are fast licks in 12/8 time, I have no idea how to count it out.  Like bar 13 or 14 (I think) in BGU solo #4.  How can I count that one, where there are five or more notes in a single beat?  Those kinds of things I think I just have to play by ear and hope for the best.

Anyway, yeah, counting is hard, but I find it's already helping me a great deal.

Good for you Russ. I don't know if you were doing this on purpose but I noticed that as you were doing the counting out loud you were also singing the notes.

I have trouble counting out loud, and watching Griff do it makes me feel stupid. Great to see another student doing it, and doing it well!

I know exactly what you mean by Griff's videos making you feel stupid. Then, after hours of practice, you accidentally get it right once and all sorts of lights start flashing above your head. That's when it really starts getting fun.

I had to have my daughter explain the 6/8 time signature to me a couple times in example 2. It took me a while to count up to 6. Like being 3 years old all over again  : .
