lesson 7-1 notation

Hi

I am working my way through the stormy slide again, and I noticed in 7-1 bar 2, the tab shows a slide:

5\3
---
5\3
---
---
---

the chord on the chart however is notated as a C9,

3
3
3
2
3
--

I know Griff is dropping 3 of the strings to simplify the chord, but by dropping so many notes from the chord is it still a 9th chord? And by dropping the root note from the chord, is this chord really still a C?

In a band situation the bass will likely take care of the root, so yeah, it's ok to drop it.

It's more important to play notes that are in the chord than to play all the notes in the chord. I guess here you're play the 5th and the flat 7th so without any other instrument you're closer to a C7
