Learning Complete Solos Pays Off

Lovin’ the journey of life and the blues
I’m buying into Griff’s philosophy regarding learning complete solos. I’ve always known learning complete solos pays dividends with technique, timing and memory, but it finally paid off with improvising. Improvising has been a weakness for me in that even though I know the minor pentatonic about as well as my ABCs I’ve always lacked creativity and musicality (is that a word?!) using it while improvising. I finally have solos 1 and 2 from BGU down now and was practicing to the Solo 2 Complete Jam track. After the first time through I started to try to improvise focusing on implementing the licks from solo 2 but tweaking and changing a little to make it my own and for once in my life it actually sounded good! Anyone else know what I mean?
