Going down the AI Rabbit Hole with Audacity

This was an interesting video. You might find some tools of value, although the music generation tool left me shaking my head. It's the very last one. It's amazing what that box on your desk is capable of.

Full disclosure: I haven't personally tried any of this.

Funny..........I think AI is trying to get us on the same page.
I never saw this guy before until a few days ago and watched this vid.
I have Audacity somewhere on my computer but, haven't used it in years.
I'm thinking of updating it to try some of these tools.

Let's just say, AI is absolutely mind blowing.
I can't help but think of all the good it can do but worry about how it has the capability to do so much harm:cautious:

I've been dabbling in AI.
I'm smart enough to know I'm not the best singer so, I'm always exploring ways to enhance my vocals.
One thing I'm looking into is the ability to change my voice and/or add female backing vocals to my songs.

PS
After looking at that Tone Master Pro that @Ted_Zeppelin just got, I may have to rethink my entire setup.
Ditch all my tube amps, pedals, mics and go completely digital/AIo_O
Well, maybe not just yet, but I can feel myself slipping in that direction.

Ted_Zeppelin

I’ll agree with you so that both of us are wrong.

Glad I could “help” you out. :D

I can't get the Open Vino files into audacity. I downloaded the zip files to "downloads" but when I try and extract to the audacity folder in "Programs" I get a message "Access is denied". I tried changing the security permissions to enable me to write to the folder but same result. Tried googling but not much help. Any advice for the technology challenged would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Glynn

You need admin privileges in order to copy anything into the Program Files (or subfolders).
I hadn't installed it yet. But just did in order to test. It installed without issue. However, my test attempt at using the "whisper" transcription tool failed on the first clip I grabbed. I'm off for some errands, so I cannot test further at this time.

Addendum to my previous post:
I suggest you unzip the folder before you place it in the Audacity folder.
Also, something you may have overlooked. This must be the 64 bit version of Audacity, so make certain that you are moving the files to Program Files and not Program Files (x86). The x86 folder is for 32 bit apps. I think Audacity creates folders in both places when installed.
And of course, make certain that you are using the latest version of Audacity, (version 3.4.2)

I got it to work. I was trying to unzip into Audacity, unzip then copy/paste works fine. I only have Audacity in Program Files (X86) so that's where it went. The OpenVINO modules appear I enabled them and they show up in effects. I tried the music separation effect on an Elmore James recording (probably from the early 50's) and it sort of worked. Will try a more recent recording later. Many thanks for your help.

I watched the video that Papa posted and a Rick Beato video on AI followed. he mentioned a youtube "thing" called "Dream Track" which lets you enter something (lyrics & melody???) and it generates a voice based on an actual person. He claims it sounds pretty good. Might be worth looking at. Seems like it might be great for people trying to create demos of their songs when they aren't great singers.

It makes me happpy to play The Blues!
Perhaps no one will ever have to learn how to play a musical instrument or how to sing. Jist use AI! In fact, we should be able to eliminate all recording studios. No more CD's, concerts, etc. Just use AI. Sounds like fun!:love:

I have used Audacity for backing tracks and I do like it.

I thought I followed the directions, but I don't see any of the menu options mentioned. Oh well, I probably wouldn't have gotten anything worth listening to out of AI either.

I did a handful of comparisons between the VINO tools in Audacity and the Demucs app I mentioned in this thread:

To my ear, the tools in Audacity did a better job than the stand alone Demucs. The Audacity tracks had less bleed-through and fewer artifacts than the Demucs tool.
However, the Demucs seemed to run several times faster than the Audacity tools.
For my use, I'll keep them both installed. The Demux comes does a very good job separating the bass and drums tracks, which will be largely why I use it. The Audacity tools seem to extract the vocals more cleanly.

The big plus for me is that the Demucs tool has a batch process to extract several different songs. Audacity requires that you load each song and process it, save and rinse, lather, repeat. If I was looking for the best quality stems, Audacity has it, hands down.

I had OpenVino working with Audacity 3.5.0 with no problems.

Last week I updated Aucacity to 3.5.1 and OpenVino would not load. I got an error message, saying that the module would not load.

Searched around and found a link for a supposed fix to get OpenVino working with Audacity 3.5.1 - it was a legit link, but it led me down the proverbial "rabbit hole" and eventually broke my interest in OpenVino.

I"m back to Audacity 3.5.1 without OpenVino. That's too bad because I liked some of the things it did.

I have OpenVino installed on my Windows machine, but I've been using Demucs-GUI instead.
It's a stand-alone package that works a lot faster than OpenVino (at least on my computer) and it has the advantage that you can batch multiple songs into its processing queue. It's also free.

As far as a quality comparison, I think OpenVino might produce slightly better results, but at the cost of a magnitude of time difference in the processing.

I'm using the latest stable release 1.1. I see they have several newer maintenance fixes, but I haven't had issues with the one I have.
