Hey Mike,
Bonnie Raitt ? ... I am not familiar with her ...  I thought she was associated with "Country Western" stuff ... forgive my lack of knowledge, what blues tune/tunes is she noted for ?

Most of her music has a blues background and she's not really country player, I'd say she's more in the rock area. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQJN8L8-ozU

Hi,
as mentioned there are quite a few good female blues guitarists who unfortunately dont really get the recognition they deserve. Bonnie Raitt was the first into my mind as well.......I have a few of her CD's and if you get a chance her live DVD 'Road Tested'  is well worth a look.
I also like Debbie Davies, Ana Popovic  and Joanne Shaw Taylor amongst others.

Cheers

..up and coming Sunny One....ok, ok, just kidding. (keeping the dream alive) will be looking up those mentioned!
Seriously, I just play for my own pleasure, anything other than that is icing.

I've seen Debbie Davies, Ana Popovic  and Susan Tedeschi at various venues.......

Ana Popovic - best player.. but more rock/blues with a lot of jazz ....doesn't give me enough blues

Susan Tedeschi - good player...better vocalist (Berkley vocal major)....saw her at a small venue early in her career.....liked her better then...but still worth seeing....at the time she had Sean Costello on lead.

Debbie Davies - good player (has an old Gibson P94 in her strat bridge....I asked her)...good vocalist... fun to watch and listen to...

some scary female blues players out there.....just can't remember all of their names......later.

I wonder why there are so few ? ... When you mention Rock & Roll I can come up with a few,  but full out blues ? ... come to think of it , other than Sunnyone , are there any more females in the forum ? ... Just wonderin' ... Females seem to have a hold on all other music venues ... my favorite female guitar player is Joan Jett ... Just tryin' to dig up some artists some of you may be aware of

Ana Popovic was not on my radar until I saw her at the Chesapeake Bay Blues festival last year in Maryland. She played an awesome set of everything from Texas style SRV, jazzy stuff and some good ole down home blues. I met her afterward and she was great to talk to. Here is a link to an interview with Ana about her blues origins:

Sorry I hadn't seen this thread on femal blues guitarists or I would have posted to it so I'll add to it now.

There is a two CD set "Blues Guitar Women". I think I'll pick this one up.
