It has been a frustrating week for me with software and screenprinting equipment! So I am having trouble figuring out how to post a link in dropbox that plays when you click on it---not take you to a download page?

The primary functional difference is https://www.dropbox_? takes you to a download page, https://dl.dropbox_? forces an automatic download which will prompt a media player to initiate and play the file when the link ends with an audio/visual file extension. Also, Dropbox has discontinued the automatic creation of a Public folder. Go to: https://www.dropbox.com/help/16/en scroll down to "Creating a Public Folder" and do the "click here". to enable that functionality.

Another note is to keep the path names short within your public folder. Dropbox looses it's mind when the path gets really long.

You can ask Dropbox for a shorter URL:
There is a limit to the length of a URL that the Forum will accept (Don't know what the limit is, but I've run into it before too). If you are using Dropbox, you can ask Dropbox to provide a "Shortened Link".
- Go to your Dropbox online
-right click the file
-Select "Copy Public Link"
-When the "Copy Public Link" dialog box appears you should see an option to "Shorten Link"
-Click on "Shorten Link"
-A new, shorter link will be created
-Click on "Copy To Clipboard"
-You should now be ready to past the URL into your post

From Paparaptor, on changes in Dropbox free accounts:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dropbox no longer gives you a public folder with a free account, so there is another step necessary. Not to worry. Sharing is still easy, even without a public folder.

After you save the file in Dropbox and look at your list of files:
  • Find the file you want to share.
  • As you move the mouse cursor over the files, a Share box/button will appear to the right of the file information.
  • Click on the Share box Another box will pop up with the heading "Share link to " followed by your filename.
  • Right click on the highlighted link and select Copy
  • Back in your BGU post window, click the link icon and paste the link there or just put your cursor in the post and paste there.
  • The link will look something like this:
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/y2v0x61ggm6cske/NABeerBluesXxxO.mp3?dl=0
This link will only allow people to download the file.
  • Change the www in the link to dl like this:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/s/y2v0x61ggm6cske/NABeerBluesXxxO.mp3?dl=0
This link will bring up a media window and immediately start playing the link.
