Counting...

Someone on my facebook BGU Students page ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/255117057919588/ ) asked about charts or chord sheets for the song " Dirty Mother Fuyer " by Billy Boy Arnold
Here's what I told him:
Blues in G (The signature chord riff is G to C)
The intro hangs on G (The G to C chord riff)
The G chord hangs for what feels like 8 measures. Chords are only played in 4 of them so I'd count it as 8 but maybe it's considered 4 after that it's a standard blues progression.
2 measures C
2 Measures D
1 Measure D
1 Measure C
1 Measure G
1 Measure D

so, would this be described better as a standard 12 bar? a 16 bar (4 of the first 8 are stops)? a 12 bar with a long I chord?

That's a good song, I think it's going on my to-do list.

I call that a 16-bar blues. If I were calling it in a jam I'd tell 'em it has a long one with stops.

I’ll agree with you so that both of us are wrong.
Love that version! Smokin’ guitar. Buddy Guy did a great “Milking Mother For Ya” version on his last album.
