Counting Out Loud

Since there is no ACOUSTIC BGU section yet, I'll post this here in the BBG. Griff has mentioned in his videos before that he doesn't know why counting out loud works. He just knows it works. Well, I believe I can tell you that the audible voicing is the key to locking it into short term and ultimately, long term memory. I repeat things out loud when I'm at work and need to remember something when I don't have access to a recording device like pen-paper, cell recorder, etc..

Fully agree with that.  Another useful thing is writing down chord patterns instead of just looking at them before you play.  The only thing with counting is you can sometimes kid yourself becasue you can both anticipate the timing and accidentaly slow down if you are seeing a problem ahead.  I very often mark the counting on the music and then read it out load as I practice.
