Here's Chuck's 4 Note Challenge:

04-01-09 Chuck's 4 note Challenge
In the spirit of what brought us all together (BGU, for some the 4 note solo). I am putting this challenge up on the board, hoping that I immediately get my Butt kicked!

Here it are the rules (for this one at least!):
1) Use the Am (12BarBluesPack5.zip)backing track (Slow, easy going).
2) Only 4 notes (Or 2 frets with all included, pick your box, 1 or 2), Just like Griff Demonstrated in his promotional video.
3) Must have at least 1 example of every Lead trick that Griff taught us (ie. Hammer on, Pull off, tweedlie, half bend, full bend, you got the Idea!).
4) It must be posted in some sort of way that all members can view it

MIM Strat, position 2 on the pickup selector(Neck and middle), My new Hardwire RV-7 Stereo Reverb Pedal, the Keeley Boss(BD2) was in bypass. All of this into my M-Audio Fast Track (No effects) for recording.

04-02-09 Dave's (Bluewater) take on the Chuck's 4 Note Challenge
Count them, 4 notes, three of them are the same ones you used.
Equipment: Audacity 1.3.7 beta, VOX DA5 Amp (blues 3 with reverb), Fender Deluxe Strat middle pickup
http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=359db9l&s=5

04-03-09 Chuck's take on his 4 note Challenge
I thought I'd post a bit of a re-take with some of my Boss BD2 in there before the reverb.
Strat (Neck Pickup, BD2 at 10 for tone, gain at 2, Phat switch is off Hardwire RV-7 same as the first).

04-07-09 560SDL's take on Chuck's 4 Note Challenge
This was recorded using my Hamer, going through a not yet modified Boss BD-2 pedal with settings to give just a little edge and directly into my Tascam.  No mics after the amp or anything

04-09-09 JohnC's take on Chuck's 4 note Challenge
Got a bit stupid in the middle, lost it a bit here and there sorry,  but this is what I came up with, just based on Griffs original 4 note idea but in Am.

I would have really liked to re-record both  tracks I recorded, but rules are rules. Here it is, mistakes and all!
Same backing track Dave posted.
Fender Strat, played through my BD2, and my Hardwire Reverb, into my M-Audio USB interface, using Sessions
Software for recording of the tracks, on my HP Media Center Laptop.

Re: Challenge Recordings & Jams

Here's a challenge from Seattle slim (Wally)

http://www.4shared.com/file/178541287/b27c68fe/God_Rest_Ye_Merry_Gentlemen.html

Jam on Merry Gentlemen and Gentlewomen. Best wishes for a happy Christmas and new year.
Offered as something to have a little fun. I think it is Am at 95 bpm.
You know the drill -- add your track, noodle, jam, vocal, harmony etc. Use the four note solo, or licks from the lessons, or improv something.

Re: Challenge Recordings & Jams

Here's Dave's Latest Challenge 01-14-10

So I saw this quote from Cowboy ... (regarding Lesson 1 recording posted by Jeffesh)

Quote from cowboy on Yesterday at 10:47:20:
Jeffesh, Good job and I really like the tone......I think it would make a great backing track to lay some lead over...nice effort. later.
cowboy

... and I had a thought "How about a Solo to LESSON 1 Challenge"

So here is the link to the Lesson 1 recording posted by Jeffesh (nice job by the way)
http://www.4shared.com/file/195787952/a2e36df9/BGU_Lesson_1.html.

Here is the Challenge.
Download the recording and add a Solo.
- If you've never done a solo yet here are some tips.
- The song is in the Key of "G"
- Use the "Box 1 fingering" (minor blues scale) as shown in lesson 15 for the blues notes to play, but for this song it is played on the third fret (Key of G) instead of the 5th fret (Key of A) as shown in lesson 15.
- Post the solo in this thread.
-  it will blow your mind when you hear what each player comes up with. they will all be different!
- This is great practice. There is no right or wrong it's all whats inside that comes out....
- If you want you go beyond Box 1 and can play your solo anywhere on the fretboard. Pull out the stops.
Dave

01-14-10 Jeffesh didn't waste any time getting this one posted.
I cheated a little bit. I took a fingerstyle blues that i already know, took out the bass notes and added a few notes to fill the gaps of the missing bass notes. I also used a capo to convert from E to G and still allow me to play open notes. I didn't want to relearn my fingering yet, but at some point I will want to make some of those licks movable. There's a little amp noise because I experimented with using a mic in front of my amp. I need to shield my strat!

I think I like the fourth one. It at least returns to a little bit of a theme and isn't so scattered.
