My God,
That's terrible!
Worst tone I ever hear,
Playing could be better.
Recording needs improvement.

OH wait.....
This isn't about ripping somebody?
It's about giving feedback?

Well,
In that case:
I liked what you played.
Liked how you played it.
Thought there was a bit too much distortion or clipping in certain parts.
Maybe just a volume thing?

Your stuff always sounds good to me, but if I was going to make one comment on this, it's that you are very strictly adhering to the timing. You seem to be a little more loose around the changes and the turn around, but there were a lot of eighth notes in a row. If it was just a 12 bar or 24 bar fill between verses, it probably wouldn't be as noticeable.

This is a case of the pot calling the kettle. It's something I have been very conscious of in my own playing, and I do it without thinking when playing, but hear it on my own playback, so I probably notice it more. It's also something I think a lot of us tend to do, especially on let 'er rip improvs.

I hope that makes sense.

Enjoyed it very much thank you. It's nice to hear how fellow BGU mates play - better than me - but makes me want to give it a go.

Are you also playing the rhythm track?

Just another day in paradise
First of all Thanks for getting us started Bill.
I enjoyed the track you choose and the first 12 bars particularly. I like the tone and the feel how you played there.
I"m not much of a fan of P90's they always sound harsh to me so I didn't really like that part of your solo. However I enjoyed the licks more in that segment . You seemed to put more of yourself into it as the tone became more aggressive. I'm uneasy with critiquing somebody else's playing my only qualifications are not much knowledge or ability and a set of tin ears. But hey ask and you shall as it's said.
I give you :thumbup: for track choice and smooth tone over first segment .

Norfolk Bill

norfolk uk, just knoodling along
:) ok here we go lol

captain,,, thanks mate ,, im not sure whats happening re clipping nothing showed here when recording ,,but maybe i need to delve into that side more , ive noticed on some, for some reason when you import it again it clips more than when uploaded,,,if that makes any sense

papa,,, i think i know what you mean ,,too much happening,,,maybe its a mental thing as there are no vocals ,,my brain doesnt think fills etc ,, maybe more thinking like a singer? and play a vocal line intead of a 3min solo??? mmm all a learning curve

scott cheers mate ,,nope nothing on the backing track just the lead stuff

giayank,,, im with you on the tone ,,not sure why i bothered switching to be honest :),,, i prefere a clean more rounded neck tone myself ;)

Annie

On my way
Billrand:cool: Very nice. I am with Papa on putting alot of notes in a solo. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Although I gotta say you didn't on this one compared to what I have heard on some of the other jams.

I like the idea of this forum because if someone wants to play more on a track they have as much as they want on their contribution here. All of us could show a little more restraint in taking too much on the VJR jams. That would make it so no one feels left out if there is not much left. Some jams could be made shorter too making it easier to listen to the whole thing.

That is my thinking as well, Annie. I know Griff mentioned that there would be jams (and there likely will be), but it seems to me if someone wants to put up an entire tune or a larger than 12, 24, 36, 48 bars for review, There won't be any complaints from me! I can't speak for everyone else.

I think this opens up a lot of opportunities, possibly for alternate takes in different styles by a single guitarist.

Love the P90s. I think its just levels into the interface that's the issue and hence other comments. You need more headroom with a good P90 so keep the level into the interface down a bit and if you want to add soft breakup use the pedal as I am sure you know. Same with amp settings I find and my buddy who gigs has a john Lennon casino with gibson P90s and he always has to roll the volume off when switching from the rickenbacker for that reason.

Great playing.

Thatman

Playin' for the fun of it.
Sounds good and liked listening to it, I can't add to any of the technical comments as I'm not that good enough myself but very well done. (y)

I have been off the grid nursing a neck problem; but, nice playing bill. I like the p90's sound in a
short burst. Agree with Annie and Papa about the VJR.

I enjoyed the way you played. Well done!
But some aspects IMHO: too much notes sometimes, guitar track a bit louder than the backtrack, and connecting notes time to time overusing slide.
The synchronization is really nice!

Regards!

Blues - it's in me and it's got to come out.
Nice Bill! I like it. Very creative. I think I understand what you are doing. You're looking for that jazz like cascading note solo. The first pickup choice sounds great. I like it clean too. I think they would be showcased better with less gain. But it looks like you're already on to that from your response to CaptainMoto. The learning curve never seems to end. Sorry. I feel so unqualified to be critical. My limitations get in the way.

See you down the road!
