a little confusing on page 82 it says If I draw the blues blocks and circle teh flatted 3rd, you'll see which note will be bent up 1/2 step.  But in the diagram the root note is circled.  The flatted 3rd has a square around it correct?

I agree with you on that, George.  On page 82, roots are circled, minor 3rds are squares.
