Recording Presonus Atom

A couple of months ago, I made a decision to switch from Cubase as my DAW to Presonus Studio One. After 6 years of using Cubase, it wasn't exactly a trivial thing to do. I've been availing myself to several of the Youtube channels that cater to information, tutorials and tips. Lately, I started watching a regular livestream by Home Studio Trainer. He has live streams nearly every day where he touches on some new or oddball tip for using Studio One. I have rarely caught his streams live and usually watched the archive, usually later on in the same evening.

Tonight, I managed to catch his live stream. While running it, he announced a drawing would be held during this evening's show, for a Presonus Atom. It's a Production and Performance Pad Controller. I've been thinking about getting one to make my most recent obsession (soup-to-nuts recordings) a little easier, especially for preparing the drum tracks, which I hand write into a MIDI editor. All you had to do to enter was to send an email during the live stream. What could be easier? So I fired one off and enjoyed the rest of the livestream. Near the end, he drew a name, and it sounded a whole lot like mine. It WAS mine!

So there's about $150 I don't have to spend for something I was going to get anyway! BTW, if you're using any version of Studio One (Prime, Artist, Pro), check out his Youtube tutorials. He's very specific about the subjects he covers. It's not exactly a beginner's channel, but he lays things out in a very concise way.

So, now I need to rethink my computer desk to make room for a new piece of gear. If you're wondering what an Atom is, here's a link to a Presonus video about it.

How cool is THAT!?
Thanks for the link. I'm definitely gonna check out the archive. There's always something that I don't know how to do in Studio One.

Papa,
Thanks for the link.
I watch a lot of S1 tutorials, I'll check out that guy to!

UPDATE: I'm all ready a subscriber HA!

About ATOM:
That's cool but, geeez.......to complicated for me.
I've expressed my aversion to gear with endless menus and this one take it to the next level with 10,000 options and way too many buttons.

I rarely use midi but when I do I have a few toys in the toll box that work for me.

And this does synth sounds and midi:

I hadn't seen the Novation. I was going back and forth between the Presonus Atom and the Akai MPK Mini MkII. I liked the idea of having a two octave keyboard available with the MPK. Right now if I want a keyboard, I either fire up my really old Yamaha P-60 piano or an almost as old M-Audio Oxygen 61 keyboard. Fortunately, by winning the Atom, I didn't have to make that decision. Since it is a Presonus product, it should marry up with Studio One quite nicely.

The Akai was the other one I considered as it and the Novation both seemed to get good reviews. Not having a keyboard, I wanted something with keys as well as pads. Wound up getting a deal on the Novation that made my mind up for me. It's made to integrate well with Abelton Live, but having tried the copy that came with it, I prefer Studio One. Watching the video, it looks like the Atom is perfect for S1.
