Minimalist Player, Lick or Both

Never been a big fan of The Cars but was listening to Shake it Up and Elliot Easton just plays what the song needs, and out. So it got me thinking of some of my favorite minimalists. So I picked my top 3, I think, never thought about it much before.

So what's yours? And no one is allowed to nominate Jerry Garcia.

Tom Campbell American Girl What he does with just 7 notes here blows me away.

Exactly Tommy. Funny for some reason I wasn't thinkin Blues, but rock

Blues opens u a whole new area of thought with BB jumpin right to the top of the list, and that guy's licks are kind of BB style.

Little known fact. Tom Petty's guitarist Mike Campbell was born Thomas Michael Campbell. He began using his middle name after joining Tom Petty's band so theyre wouldn't be two Toms.

Nice try... You do like to spread it thick, don't you?

You gotta get your stories straight. It was Steppenwolf's keyboard player who was named John Goadsby who changed his name to Goldy McJohn because although it's OK to have two johns in your house, John Kay, Steppenwolf's lead singer said there couldn't be two Johns in the band.

Or the original members of the band, Sugarloaf, Jerry Corbetta, Bob Webber, Bob Raymond, Bob MacVittie, and Robert Yeazel (aka Bob).

Source: Wikipedia.
Michael Wayne Campbell (born February 1, 1950) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and record producer. Campbell was a member of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and co-wrote many of the band's hits with Petty, including "Refugee", "Here Comes My Girl", "You Got Lucky", and "Runnin' Down a Dream".

Good try, but I happen to know he shares the same middle name as me, Michael Wayne Campbell

I did say it was a little known fact. Your responses have shown how little known it was.
In fact it's so little known it's possible, ole Tom Mike himself doesn't know it.

I'll nominate George Harrison. At least I think that was his real name, although he sometimes went by Carl.

I think he was in the Beatles.
