Thinking of adding one of these to the studio so I can add some simple beats to my stuff rather that programming. I prefer playing rather than programming although I do not consider myself a drummer per se but can pound out a beat. My recording is into my Tascam 32 track instead of DAW. Anyway any comments on the newer Alesis Strike Multipad, not a lot of reviews out there, and the Roland SPD-SX? They are both $699.

you know, I see actual electronic drums from $199 to $249 with USB outs, this way I really have a full set, I record a beat, then try to play over it

believe it or not, I fold mine, release two handles, and boom, they are sitting in the front seat of my car or in the corner of the living room, they take up less room than my amp
