Hi Mike,
I was able to see Ana Popovic play this past summer. Very energetic and dynamic performer. I tried to take some concert photos, but my digital point and shoot camera wasn't pro quality --- not fast enough. Every picture is sort of impressionistic (i.e. blurry).

I think Joanne Shaw Taylor is a young blues woman to watch. Her playing is like she spiritually channels SRV.

It's funny that women are only now being rediscovered in the blues.  In the beginning blues singers were mostly female and were backed by a big band.  (Ma Rainey, Big Mama Thornton etc...)  it wasn't until Lightnin' Hopkins that the blues became a single male singer with a guitar.  The times are always changin'

There are lots of great female blues singers, keepin' the voice of the ladies alive. Etta James, Shemekia Copeland, Angela Strehli, to name a few.

"Just Now" Please! If we just focus on guitarists, let's not forget about Bonnie Raitt. There were rumors back when Lowell George died that Little Feat asked her to join the band. She has been burin' it up on guitar for years. Granted her most recent recordings have been more Pop. I had the pleasure of seeing her and Taj Mahal playing together at an outdoor concert this Summer and she was back to the blues.
On the subject of Debbie Davies her most recent release Holdin' Court is outstanding. All instrumental and very fine Strat work. She was Albert Collins second guitar.

Saw Ana Popovic at the North Atlantic Blues Festival a few years back....killer player with some strong jazz background.. saw Debbie Davies and Susan Tedeschi at the same festival...different years....this year Shemika Copland is already signed on.  I had the chance to see Susan Tedeschi early in her career.....she opened for the Fabulous Thunderbirds and had Sean Costello on guitar....great gig.  got to say that she is a good guitar player in her own right..I can imagine that being married to Derek Trucks would do wonders for her playing but will we ever get much of a chance to hear her play.......but as with a lot of women, the focus in on vocals....and the guitar playing can go unnoticed...ditto for Davies.....if you want to talk about female guitar players, listen to Jennifer Batten....another planet......saw her with Jeff Beck...later.

I had the opportunity to see Ana Popovic about a year and a half ago at a show with Walter Trout. Not being familiar with Ana, Ididn't know what to expect. Needless to say very energetic and very good. I'd go see her again given the opportunity. By the way, Walter Trout was also very good.

Both make great performances. The way I play there's no throwing stones.

Wow! Nice find Mike. What a voice, and great tone. My guess is we'll be hearing more from her. Thanks for the heads-up.

I first heard her at the Dallas Guitar show where she was playing on the 20 & Under stage. A friend introduced us so I stuck around fro her show. I'm glad that I did. BTW, She is already on XM Radio!

Good to know! She deserves airtiime. I watched another video from when she was just 18. She was a little shy and not made-up wearing casual clothes Shades of Billy Gibbons with some Hendrix flair.

Speaking of bluesy women, here is John Mayall's current guitarist, Carolyn Wonderland. This video is from when DrRon and I saw them this past November.
