Thanks for the post LP (and the 16 bar one). I would like to say I completely understand it  ;D -  I think I have just about got a handle on the 12 bar blues format so far. I think my dad plays 8 bar blues on the piano (as well as 12 bar) but I cant say I have ever heard of 16 bar blues.
Is it used often?

Cheers

The 8 bar is probably more prominent then the 16 bar. So no it is not heard all that much but there are some common or well known blues tunes in a 16 bar or contain a 16 bar within.

Here is a great 8-bar blues in A - "Key to the Highway" one of my favorite blues songs of all time. There is an MP3 file and PDF too!

and a really interesting page that talks to 3 chord progressions including a 16 bar.

Good call LP [smiley=beer.gif]

I left media player on repeat & I really like that mp3 of Key to the Highway, the tab is there & I'm wondering if I could learn it? Guess it couldn't hurt to give it a try :)

wiki is a great source once again, this time for the 16 bar examples. Check it out.

"Oh, Pretty Woman", written by A.C. Williams, first recorded by Albert King (instrumental sections are 12-bars)
- one of Wayne's favorites. Great song!

I counted the first two verses - well I'll be dang, there be 16 bars!
