Actually I went and played around with it and I would just do driving quarter notes with heavy palm mute and let a chord ring out now and then, heck he tells you how to play it in the lyrics "Listen to the engine moaning out his one note song"

I guess it is more of a stylistic feeling but I might go along with the suggestion to slow down a wee bit...
