{"id":7564,"date":"2019-02-19T17:29:39","date_gmt":"2019-02-20T01:29:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bluesguitarunleashed.com\/blog\/?p=7564"},"modified":"2019-02-19T17:29:39","modified_gmt":"2019-02-20T01:29:39","slug":"dont-poke-the-root-note","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluesguitarunleashed.com\/blog\/dont-poke-the-root-note\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Poke The Root Note&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is one of those things that I see many of my less experienced blues soloists do&#8230; In fact, I see it in my son&#8217;s jazz band at school, it&#8217;s just a common thing when you&#8217;re not as sure about what you&#8217;re going to play next.<\/p>\n<p>The tendency is to not want to leave empty space, so during periods of thinking, you might tend to &#8220;poke&#8221; the root note a few times. It&#8217;s a safe place to be, and it&#8217;s not empty space, so it seems to work.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, in my experience, most of my students don&#8217;t even realize they do this. So realizing it&#8217;s a thing is probably the first step to correcting it \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>But the second step is doing something better.
