{"id":6890,"date":"2016-05-25T20:40:48","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T03:40:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bluesguitarunleashed.com\/blog\/?p=6890"},"modified":"2016-05-25T20:40:48","modified_gmt":"2016-05-26T03:40:48","slug":"roots-and-octaves","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bluesguitarunleashed.com\/blog\/roots-and-octaves\/","title":{"rendered":"Roots And Octaves &#8211; Another Way To Look At Your Fretboard"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Your guitar fretboard is a strange and wonderous place&#8230; and the longer I play the more I realize that each of us eventually develops our own mental model of it that helps us navigate around it.<\/p>\n<p>There are many ways to visualize, navigate, and understand the guitar fretboard&#8230; and if your aim is to one day &#8220;completely master the fretboard&#8221; then you owe it to yourself to be familiar with as many different approaches as possible. And here is one you may not have been exposed to.<\/p>\n<p>As an extra side benefit, looking at the fretboard in different ways often helps to get you out of soloing ruts too. When you picture the fretboard differently, your fingers and ideas go in different places. So even if you feel like you know this already&#8230; think about actually applying it and working with it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s deceptively simple and it&#8217;s easy to overlook how helpful it can be.
