Greetings fellow Gear Junkies!

While we were checking out the ODR-1, we also spent a little time with this new little beast called the ODR-S or Overdrive Special (no relation or similarity to the Dumble of the same name that I’m aware of.)

Best thing about this pedal is the band EQ. That’s not common on overdrive pedals and I’ve never understood why because it’s SO helpful with brighter or darker guitars/amps/rigs in general.

This one was really fun to play and as you’ll hear definitely brings out my more rockin’ side, especially with the Les Paul.

If you have trouble with the sound, check the volume slider at the bottom of the player. On my computer it seems to be off (the X) and I have to slide it up. From the last video I did I see I’m not the only one… maybe it’s a youtube thing.

Enjoy!

A impressive reveal, I a minute ago known this on a colleague who was doing a little tad like psychoanalysis by this. He actually bought me breakfast as I bare it for him.. smile.

      Hey Griff,
Thanks for the demo videos you did on the Nobels pedals. I appreciated your review about these pedals and the insights you shared based on your pro experience with guitar gear and tone. Considering the vast number of guitar effects pedals available, and the extremely subtle difference between many of them, it’s quite daunting for someone like myself, just getting into the guitar effects realm, to know what pedals to choose to put on a pedal board. I actually already own 2 overdrive pedals, and am still interested in possible adding 1 or 2 more. So, I hope you do more of these pedal effects videos, they’re very informative and helpful. Also, I found myself nodding my head when you talked about the benefit of the 3 band EQ on the ODR-S, as I’ve been thinking about that same feature would help me better tweak my live sound. The only other pedal I’ve heard (on-line) that had EQ knobs was the Paul Cochrin Timmy, which has a bass and treble EQ. When I heard a guy review and play this pedal on YouTube, I immediately noticed that it seemed to have a fat, warm tone, with some nice, thick, lows. Maybe you know this, but this is a hard pedal to find and purchase, even though I’ve heard that some guitar players in Nashville have this pedal and love it. Anyway, I’m going to the Nobels site now to check out the ODR-S a bit more.

Again, you leave me in awe.you really have a one on one with your sound..I’m thankful for your instructions and info…great pedal…

    • Art

Yup, I agree awesome pedal and demo. Thank you Griff the all of the pedal demo’s and for showing the settings as you go along. Having gear demo’d by an instructor is important to me with regards to using it in the genre that I studied and you teach. As a result of the demo, I am out now $100 dollars, but no complaints as it will be a great addition to my pedal board, also thanks to your prior 2 video’s. Hopefully you will demo the other two Nobel pedals soon. I still have some pocket money left 🙂 Take care.

      Way Cool!

How is the ODR powered…9 volt battery or AC? What kind of warranty comes with the unit?

A “C-Note” seems like a reasonable price …hmm! Did Hendrix ever use an effect pedal similar to this one?

I can definitely hear the appeal of the device for metal-heads (a la ‘Metallica’) and Boogie masters ( a la ZZ Top).

Thank you for the superb introduction and demonstration!

      Hello Griff
While your on the pedals there, I came across a pedal made by Tc electronics in Australia called “Ditto” and it is a True bypass 24bit Looper with a 5 minute record time in which you can record over on the fly. Its simple to use only one button and a volume knob. Made just for guitarists. 92mm L x 40mm W x 30mm H .
TCelectronic.com/manual for a bit more info.
      Around $180-$250 on Ebay

Griff,I am going to wait before I start using the pedal, until I can at least play a riff all the way thru. I bought a Zoom 505II from a friend of mine. Do you think this will be ok? Mike Z.

hello u did it again These videos are great, and the info is awsome

    • Colin

An excellent pedal Griff and a great chance for you to show your rock guitar skills.

But as most of us students are probably concentrating on the excellent Blues guitar lessons you are providing then it may not be a priority.

I have just started learning the “5 Easy Blues Solos” you released in September 2013.
I opted for DVD and it comes with an easy to follow tablature book of the 5 solos.
Totally brilliant, affordable and excellent value.

A nice pedal, an american guitarist playing a Koch ??? Dutch amp!
      Nice though. 🙂
Keep up the good work Griff!

    • Richard Campbell

These videos are great, and the info is awsome.. But as a beginner, do I need this.? Will I ever use it.? What should I really spend my limited budget on, first.? A good amp, a better guitar, or things like this to make me sound, well, not like ME..!

    • Lee Pogson

Awesome! – keep on rockin’ dude!

    • Dennis Kelsey

What is the most important pedal if you can only have one?

    • Paul Warner

What a very nice pedal!!! Terric sound and lots of good variance. It is good to see it in action too.
Thank you Griff. I love equipment videos. Paul
