Playing The Blues On The Resonator Guitar

A Resonator guitar with a bottleneck slidewas a favorite in the Delta blues.

I recently picked up a resonator guitar and have really enjoyed messing around with it.  So I thought it would be fun to do a little research about resonator guitars and check out some videos with guitarists playing their own guitars.  I put together a few of my favorite videos featuring resonator guitarists and even a video explaining the differences between select resonator guitars and some buying tips for them.  Overall, I think you'll dig the videos I put together because they include great information about resonator guitars and some very cool performances on them.  I hope you enjoy the post since I had a great time making it for you.

The first video comes from Keni Lee Burgess.  Burgess has definitely done his research about vintage guitars and has provided a great introduction and history of resonator guitars on Youtube.  Check out his video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX2ZDDr7Hsc.

The next video features an intimate blues jam on a resonator guitar with guitarist, Kirk Lorange.  This performance was on of the first videos I found and helped inspire my choice to produce this post.  It's a very cool jam that I think you'll have fun listening to.  Check it out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMkcE87CzCg.

I found a good video featuring blues guitar legend Bukka White next.  Unfortunately, the audio isn't at its best in the video, but it definitely looks good.  Bukka White, or Booker T. Washington White, was a Delta blues guitarist and singer that was known best on his National resonator guitar.  Check out the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pkhj9z14TBo&feature=related.

The next video features a resonator guitarist and singer, accompanied by a violin and harmonica player.  I thought it was a cool little trio and a good jam, plus I dug the guy's voice.  See the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDfS9sulSHI&feature=related.

The last video I will leave you with features a performance by blues guitarist Bob Brozman.  He plays a mean resonator guitar and sings "Highway 49 Blues" at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuzfgagmrBk&feature=related.

The resonator guitar coupled with a bottleneck slide offers a very cool and authentic blues sound.  There are a lot of great resonator guitar players to check out, but I hope you got something out of this little feature.  I definitely enjoyed these performances and learned more about the resonator guitar.  I think I'll go jam a little bit myself.

Thanks and take care!

Griff

Wow.....This was GREAT Griff.......Especially the second and last guys whom I have never
heard of ... Been familiar with Bukka White for years and played his second piece without
knowing his 'stylistics' of showmanship....Never heard the original Aberdeen Women,
except from a great version by Kennt Wayne Shepard... J
