And while you've learned the framework of most blues tunes... there is still PLENTY more where that came from!

So enjoy this, and do your best to play it. It might take some time but it'll be worth it.

Paul.. I have gotten several calls from the same guy. He keeps claiming my computer has been hacked and wants my password. I wish I knew how to stop him. I just hang up, but I’m sick of hearing his voice. Just watch out, he will spoof you into thinking that someone else is calling. God bless!

Call the local police, and give them the phone numbers they call from, that will help them find them, and shut them down, and give them some jail time to boot ! They got me too !

Hey Griff! At last someone (you) has understood (remembered, perhaps?) that this seems hard to us wannabe jam session players simply because no-one has ever explained just how simple it really is!

You’ve really cut the chase – removed all the bells and whistles and put down the things that work, in a way that always will work and using examples that are almost too easy to believe… and made it sound good, too! Well done and thanks.

  3. Bob L says:

Really good stuff to learn Griff, I always enjoy watching your videos, I learn something new every time.

  4. Tom H. says:

That was a great promo for your courses. I can attest that they work.

  5. James A. says:

Thank you again Griff. Great three part seminar to help bring together all the lessons I have worked with in your terrific Blues Guitar Unleashed course.

  6. tony says:

looks like you just tied some stuff up very well . great beginner solo example . I like all the tid bits like messin with volume knob . I had a good friend that used a small wide elestic band on the knob . think it is a old sabbath trick by Tony I. You think its a Duke Ellington thing, the bassie ending . I am goin ta check that.

  9. Zman says:

Great lesson series Griff!! I was gonna try and put some lyrics together for the jam track. My theme would be “Unleash My Blues” Get it?

“I takin’ lessons from Griff, he unleashed my Blues
You can take lessons from Grif, It’ll Unleash your Blues too.
Whenever I’m not sure what to play, Good Ole Griff will come through!!

    Wow!wow!wow! (3 Wows!)
Nicely done. If anyone ever wants to know what the BGU course is like, this is a very generous answer! And if anyone thinks this is difficult, wait ’till you see Lessons 12, 14, or Solo #4!! Great teaching!

  11. Jerry Persall says:

Just so exquisitely well done!! Many, many thanks! I have almost every one of your courses and have learned so very much from them in the past few years. I appreciate the continuity of instruction like this little 3-lesson mini-course. Nobody does blues guitar instruction online or DVD better than you, Griff. Been playing since I was 14; been playing really well in the past 10 years. Just turned 70 and still love what I can do on my Strat and Tele. It is literally true that most of the time it is just five notes. Many thanks.

  12. Pentti J Savolainen says:

Griff. I’m happy I have found you as me remote teacher. I have many of your courses, but this one has been really eye opening – kind of a lesson about the whole concept of a blues song.
Also I have noticed that you smile and laugh and look happy when teaching us – that it very nice and motivating.

  13. Mark Arnold says:

Griff just want to say thank you so much for your generosity and expertise you have done a fantastic job of simplifying things for the sake of learning your a master instructor !!!!!

  14. John England says:

Excellent material Griff. Despite being an ancient player I always learn something new, every time.

  15. DaveyJoe says:

    Excellent Griff!

Getting us all back on track. Eliminating whatever confusion there might be, etc…

Thanks once again for a very good, straight ahead lesson!

  16. Thank you; a guitarist for 45 years and I can now play the blues for the first time properly; your best lesson so far !!!!

  17. Kevin says:

This is the most invaluable video or series of videos you have come out with on your daily blog. It cuts new ground that no one else has attempted to tackle.

  18. Fabian says:

    Really a great teacher.

  19. edward says:

it’s here ! More grease to your elbow.

  20. Gregory L says:

Lights turned on for me, even in areas that are not the subject of these videos but were displayed, nonetheless. Thanks more than you can know. You’ve been a blessing on my road. Peace.

  21. Jerry says:

Griff, I can only echo what all the others have said. I have most of your courses and started taking private lessons too (which have been very helpful). I also try and catch all your daily emails. This sequence is right up there. It’s amazing how obvious this is once you demonstrate it. Again, thanks so much for your wonderful instruction.

  22. Chuck says:

Griff, I enjoy your videos but I didn’t get video for stop #2, thanks.

  23. Man ‘O’ man fantastic tuition, this was a very good tutorial on the three aspects of playing in a jam session that I have come across in my 60-70 yrs on this planet and what made it more enjoyable was the visual presentation which showed how and when to do the things meant to be done to enjoy a jam with friends and strangers alike. Well done Griff!

  24. I am 1 year into the Acoustic corse.
I am using the knowledge gained as a gateway to learning to play Jazz on my Classic Martin Backpacker.
I have been poking at the guitar for decades, but have just come to realize how important counting, and timing is.
As a child I always thought Lawrence Welk’s “A1 a2 a3″was just corny show biz.

  25. I enjoyed these videos so much. I particularly liked the structure. The licks are simple and easy to play. But you the master made it sound so good. I could not ask for a better teacher. This may be considered an extension to BGU book. Thank you. It’s time to go to work and play , practice until I can get to the flow…

  26. Jim from NH says:

Thank you, Griff, for these great lessons. BGU in a nutshell. Some of my co-workers have been talking about getting together for a jam–I think I’m just about ready now.

  27. Chief Rick says:

Great series, Griff. It gave me the practical advice that I had been searching for, but all in one place which made it convenient. Thank you.

  28. Paul says:

Great lessons, I have learned a lot from these.
Thanks for your time and effort.
I look forward to using what I learned.

  29. Don McWilliam says:

I’ve really enjoyed having this basic blues structure put together and explained in this way, yes I know there is similar material in my BGU but seeing your videos piece together a jam session is very good.
And the funny thing is, I found playing these licks a great help with playing Solo 3 in BGU.
Yet another master class and much appreciated.
    Regards
    Don

  30. Robert says:

Been working through BGU./Four Note Solo/and Blues Gig in a Box for a while now Griff, so I’ve got a lot of the basics, this has changed my life ! Thank you so much

  31. Frank Michel says:

Hey Griff , thanks for the love man . You exude good vibes over the planet with your giving nature. Us zen guys call that a Bodhisattva !!
Great 3 part series , simple and easy to understand and a good reminder even for those of us with more experience . Keep spreadin the goodness , you always bring a smile to my day and I’m sure to all the rest of your followers. So a huge thank you !!!

  32. John says:

Great stuff. Was a way for me to see the whole picture. Thanks.

  33. Rich Hughes says:

Griff…thanks again for a wonderful series on how to jam….I wish someone had taught this to me years ago. You are a great teacher and a great musician

    Rich

  34. Bill Hollman says:

    Griff-

Thank you very much for taking the time to put this roadmap together. This is a VERY generous gift. Once again I have to say how much I appreciate the clear way you present this material. Thanks again!

  35. Mike says:

Thanks Griff for making this lesson and all of your other lessons so transparent. You are one of a kind.

  36. Eddie says:

    Hey Griff,

Thanks for painting the full picture for us. I have had many guitar teachers, and they never put it together so that I can understand. I guess they feel (some instructors) if I only give my student a little at a time, they will keep coming back and keep paying for the lessons.

You are one of a kind. (repeating) what Mike said in his comment.

    Eddie

  37. John says:

    Hi Griff!
Once again you’ve helped all of us!
I learned that you start soloing on the second beat..what a difference!

your teaching style is reassuring, instilling confidence as we develop our skills, and style too.
    Thanks a Million!

    John

  38. Fred Palombi says:

Griff, I have the original BGU is there any way just to get the updates to it. Thanks, Fred

  39. Bob says:

    Hey Griff,
Great stuff, just what I needed. Somehow I missed step 1. Could you please send the link to your step 1 lesson.

    Thanks

  40. Bruce says:

l really liked the song . good beat ,and nice phrasing .

  41. Greg says:

Excellent clarification of some definitely important info to know. This in turn builds confidence. If I was at a blues jam, I would be more self-conscious of what the other “musicians” are going to think or “judge” about my ability, than I would be about somebody in the audience who knew nothing about music and would not “see” my mistakes or uncertainty. I know me, and my playing are not “that important”, but the worse thing I have ever experienced is to draw attention to myself at a musical event, and end up not having “my act together”. This “Blues Roadmap” definitely helps me overcome this phobia. Thanks once again Griff, for going above and beyond what the other “run-of-the- mill” online guitar instructors offer. Kudos !!!

  42. virgmck virgmck says:

Thanks Griff for all the valuable information. I am a Harmonica player who is ‘eating this up’ It is so helpful to know what other Members are doing when playing in a Jam Set or a Band. Thanks a Bunch.

  43. George Mabry says:

Griff, I’ve followed you for years and have bought a lot of your stuff. Most of my playing is alone but I have attended jams and on occasion I’ll play with someone else. This latest series of yours on how to jam is almost like you’re psychic. You’ve answered just about every question I have on playing in jam sessions. You’re the man my friend. God bless you.

    George

  44. Dominic says:

Good stuff you rally summed it up and a straight up way. I want the vocal lyrics lol. This should sell you a bunch of courses.

    Regards

  45. Larrey says:

Griff, you are an excellent teacher. You have so much to offer aspiring musicians. Thank you!!! While I have already purchased many of your coarse’s I really enjoy receiving your regular e-mails with additional advice. Purchasing your Blues coarse’s has been a bargain.

  46. Scott Rempel says:

What a great mini lesson series!
I was going to ask that your next BGIAB (vol 3) be more of a beginner version, and this is a great example of that.
    Thanks once again!

  47. Jack says:

Thanks Griff for an excellent mini-series. Like Alex, I struggle to keep up with all the great stuff you send out, but Hey thanks, keep it coming.

  48. robert says:

why are the little cords D7 E7 so different in this exersize the say like the robert johnson little chords d7 e7?

  49. Peter Hooiveld says:

Thanks again Griff! I feel my confidence level growing every time I watch your videos and try out some new stuff. Still haven’t found the time to work on the Killer Blues Solos Made Easy course I purchased a couple months ago though….where has the time flown?? You rock!
