“Discover How To Increase Your Blues Guitar Playing Speed, Control, and Finger Dexterity By 21% Or More In The Next 30 Days…”

And yes, those results are, in fact, typical… and were the average result of my not-super-scientific test with a group of aspiring blues guitarists, so let me explain…

Back in late 2016, I ran a “challenge” to a group of my Blues Guitar Unleashed students – the challenge was to create and perform a solo… nothing fancy.

There were several sessions where I explained how to do it, and people could ask questions (it was “live” online) and it was a great success – all 180-ish people that did the challenge seemed to get a lot out of it.

But something bothered me…

You see, in most of my critiques of those solos, the problem wasn’t the ideas, it was the execution

In other words, these guys and gals had some great ideas to play – they had learned and created some super cool licks and ideas – but they simply could not get them to come out sounding good.

And I’ve seen this same situation at many of my live events – it’s the, “I love what you were going for,” problem…

So in February of 2017, I decided to do another challenge, but this challenge was all about building speed and control – and for 30 days I gave the challengers a scaled down version of what I’ve got for you today…

The results? On average, based on the numbers from the people who kept track and shared them with me, was around 21% speed increase, in 30 days (actually, 28, because February is a short month.)

OK, but let’s cut to the chase…

Those people practiced, and they practiced most every day, and they did what I told them to do.

If you think that you can magically read books and watch videos and play better… it’s time to move on.

But if the scaled down version of this system worked so well for those 120+ people, then I’m confident it will work for you – and I’m willing to guarantee it.

So let me show you what I have for you…

Exactly What You’re Getting

Blues Speed Building Blocks is a step-by-step, workshop style course to take you from wherever you are, to 20% faster and beyond.

There is about 7 hours of video, 6 hours of audio tracks to play along with, and a complete manual with instructions and transcriptions of every example in painstaking detail.

Here’s how (and why) my Blues Speed Building Blocks system works:

  • While you may not realize it, your fingers are not the bottleneck in your speed. For 999 out of 1000 students I see, the problem is in their ability to subdivide beats internally, and count the beats out loud while playing. Counting during your lead playing is front-and-center in the entire Blues Speed Building Blocks course.
  • In my 10 minute warmup routine, you’ll learn how to improve your baseline technique and how to combat the most common technique mistakes I see most guitar players make. Plus, you’ll learn 4 proven drills that will fix those technique errors and get you on the path to more effortless guitar playing in any style.
  • Most people put the notes first, and the counting and timing second on the list of priorities. But you need to reverse that order, and the way to do that is to make you play faster than you currently can. By forcing you to keep the count going, even if the notes falter, you will quickly retrain your brain into putting the timing first and the notes second. Then your internal clock can develop and you can play everything better and faster than before.
  • Blues licks are all built from the same “building blocks,” which are usually 3-5 note fragments that repeat and show up in dozens, if not hundreds, of licks. By focusing in on those fragments first, then mixing and matching them together into longer and longer licks, you’ll learn to group your efforts – much like a typist learns to group letters together into a word.
  • I've grouped the examples into 4 distinct groups – Group 1 examples are the simplest with mostly just triplet 1/8th notes and common fingerings. By the time you get to Group 4 you’ve got most any finger movement covered.
  • The speeds are also grouped based on a musical format, not some arbitrary number. Level 1 speed goes from 60-80 beats per minute (bpm.) 60bpm is about the average tempo of a slow blues song so you can see where that comes from. 90-110bpm is Level 2, and 120-140 is Level 3. Most common shuffles are about 110-120bpm, so that number isn’t arbitrary.
  • If you play at the top of your technique all the time – meaning you’re always playing as fast as you possibly can just to keep up, you’re going to make mistakes. On the other hand, if you’ve got 10-20bpm “in the tank,” you’ll play with confidence and ease, knowing that you’ve got some speed to spare. That’s why you’ll practice at not only 120bpm, but 130, and 140 in the same session.
  • Using “speed bursts” and playing outside of your comfort zone trains your fingers and brain to know what you’re going to expect of them. Fingers will get lazy and practicing slowly all the time makes you really good and playing slowly – not what you want. Being able to play faster means that your slow playing is more effortless, leaving you with leftover brain power and energy to come up with cooler things to play.
  • It's great to play a bunch of examples and licks, but it’s even better to see how they turn into “real” solos. So for each of the first 3 groups I’ve also provided a 12 bar solo example at every tempo from 60-140bpm (going up by 10s.) You’ll hear the same solo as a slow blues, midtempo shuffle, and uptempo shuffle – improving technique, maintaining your chops, and learning new licks to play simultaneously.
  • The examples used in each Group were taken from hundreds of solo examples – many of which are found on both popular blues recordings, and courses I’ve made before (which also came from popular blues recordings 🙂 So you know that these moves are going to set you up with the ability to play and execute any blues soloing idea you might want to play.
  • It truly doesn’t matter where you are now. Even if you can barely play a single note, you can improve with this system. Even if you never play along with the track for the first 30 days, you’ll still get faster, you won’t be able to help it. You’ll have a hard time measuring it, but you’ll get faster and if you record yourself at the beginning and the end of the first 30 days, you’ll hear and feel the difference.

It’s About More Than Just Playing Faster…

In the blues, the word technique gets a bad rap… but whether you like it or not, your technique is your trusted friend, and it’s what you lean on when you want to express yourself through your guitar playing…

And if you think that technique only comes into play when you play your solos, then I’m afraid you’ve been sorely misled, and I’m sorry for that…

You see, as I like to say, “The rising tide raises all ships.” When your technique is better, and you have more control over your guitar, everything sounds better.

For example, have you ever had a time when you learned a lick or a song, but just never sounded quite perfect? It just took soooooo long to “own it?”

Well that is a technique issue… for you to play that song, you are at the top end of what you can do, and that’s a fine line to walk. It’s like a tightrope, and one false move means you’re off the rails…

But if you could improve your speed by 10%, you’d have plenty left “in the tank” and it would be easy and seem effortless to play that song... and that’s what good technique can do for you.

By improving your ability to count, keep time, and execute those fine movements, you make it easier to do everything you want to do on your guitar. There’s just no way you can lose when you chose to improve your technique.
