Leave a little room for science, logic, and compassion. It is prudent to observe all logical precautions.
I try very hard to not vilify an ethnic group due to their national leadership (and I hope others extend us the same consideration) or because of fear of something I don't really understand. Limiting public transportation seems prudent for those who are willing to endure it. I use it as a last resort, rarely. Other precautions will help us to avoid the seasonal flu anyway, bad stuff. I had Hong Kong flu way back when, I was quarantined at home, sick, dehydrated puppy for 3+ weeks. No fun. I have every respect for flu. Kills lots of folks.
My lovely daughter in law was made in China. I shudder to think of how I would feel if I came to this country, learned the language and learned to love and live in the USA, marry what I consider an outstanding american, and are as concerned for the safety and care of her family as anyone, and now we will introduce a nice big stigma that we will associate with anyone with asian features. (not to mention her deep concern for all her/our family living in China). If this is due to disapproval of the leadership of the PRC, I am very concerned for US citizens abroad. If it is illogical response to uncertainty, history contains many dark pages that provide a certain outcome. People will needlessly cause harm to one another. My wife has had a persistent cough going on fifty years, never smoked, just dry throat. We can't let her fly to see family until this calms down, she could easily be confined in a petri dish with real sick folks and thus get real sick.
I sure don't mean to dig on BCB, I like him (
you Bud) just fine. Maybe that is why I felt a response rising in me when I read this, because we have shared a few comments and tunes. I am on board with BCB's thread starting statement!!!
I have seen so much prejudice lately, let's not embrace another. We won't heal faster with a mean heart.
We will prevail over this outbreak. Much faster, in my opinion, with science, logic, and compassion. We will manage and heal this outbreak, there have been and will be tragedies. We need to emerge with our humanity intact.
I'll admit, I felt a little "extra lucky" to have four of five days this week finding me in the facility of different medical providers. Not too hard to get appointments though.
How scared do we want to be? Go ahead on, I'll wait here. (I did buy a pack of printer cartridges though, just in case they become rare and expensive)
