Thoughts of a beginner....

Bending a note a tiny bit to give it just a little sharper emphasis is probably a good example  In reality, notes are just defined points along a continuum. Without those points the complexity of infinite possibilities would be overwhelming.

That does make me wonder about non-western music, though. Are there other forms of music theory based upon non-western A through G notes?

I'll look forward to fingertips of steel but for now I'm about to swap DVDs over.....

I certainly don't have fingertips of steel, but my callouses are coming back nicely. At times, my back makes my legs all jittery, and I can't concentrate to play at all. The pain from the surgery isn't too bad, and it is healing. The nerve issues in the legs will drive my crazy, however. I have spent more time playing the folk music of Gordon Lightfoot and some 60's stuff rather than my ABGU lessons, but I guess I had better pick up where I left off. It is so hard to concentrate for long. Well, back to the grind, eh? Have a good one. Jim

Funny how things work out, in a strange way. I posted this reply to Olivia just after I had back surgery in September 14, and it looks as though it did not work completely, and they will have to do the surgery over again this September. It looks as though I will have lots of practice time, again. Bummer, Jim

Well that was a long lay off, way too long. Made a few bad career decisions but I'll cut the boring stuff and report that I'm firmly back in the saddle and progressing with this course. And the day job is good too..!!

I was ignoring the DVDs and reviewing what I'd already done for about 20 minutes two or three times a week. That's no use to anyone. I made the decision to go for it (or quit) so I got into hour sessions and these are getting longer. The result is that I am now progressing faster than ever before and the belief is well and truly there. Sometimes I'll achieve the unthinkable (for me) and the smile that creeps across my face is impossible to stop.

I might appear to spam this forum over the next day or so but I wanted to wait until I had something to share, some real progress to report and now I have just that. Apologies in advance folks...

Reporting progress and success is NEVER considered spam here. IT's always fund to hear of people making progress on their guitar journey.

Thanks Mike. Moving through the course makes a definite improvement all round. Visiting earlier lessons and examples are easier with more practise on the new and harder stuff. There are encouraging comments on the forum that really inspire you to keep moving on...
