It makes me happpy to play The Blues!
To add a bit of spice to your Blues playing, you might consider looking into the Intro, Turnaround, and Outro. These can be used with good effect, and they can be overused if you are not careful. Below are a few links that can help you to be on your way.
My suggestion is to understand what is being presented, play it and see what you like. Using software like TablEdit or Guitar Pro, you can transcribe to other keys. Record yourself playing a piece you like, then add an Intro. Then an Outro. Add a Turnaround. Now record yourself by adding the Intro, Turnaround, and Outro to your piece. Listen to the five recordings you just made and see what you think.
A good rule for any Blues piece is to have it sound like a conversation. You do not want it to sound like a Chinese Laundry!
