Live Sound Studio Monitors

Rancid Rumpboogie

Blues Mangler
When I record my playing, I monitor everything through my speakers ... backing track, guitar, effects, etc. I hate headphones with a passion. My main requirement is that they are loud enough and with enough low end to easily hear the drums and bass guitar in the mix. My set-up does that in spades. I am "near-field-ignorant".

Thanks for posting this, Mike. You helped me set up my new monitors correctly! Like Braylon, I bought a pair of the JBL 305’s over the holidays. Sweetwater had them on sale for $99 ea. I hadn’t really got around to fully testing them out, but your post made wonder what the “live” guitar sounds like. I’ve never had “monitors”- always used headphones. At first, they sounded kinda bass heavy. Then I read the directions and realized I didn’t set the speaker input level switch correctly (from the focusrite 2i2). Now, I think they sound very good! Not real loud, but kinda why I only got the 5” in the first place. Happy hunting!
