Smoke on Shearwater

Like most beginner guitarists my son, Josh, recently discovered and aspired to play the famous riff from ‘Smoke on the Water.’

When he and my wife started looking into the song they found that Deep Purple wrote it following a fire, which burned down the venue that they were due to record their album in. Inspiration took hold as the members of the band watched the smoke from the fire spread over Lake Geneva.

As Josh and my wife were learning this our County Fire Service were being called upon to deal with the devastating Wareham Forest fire in Dorset, England.

And so they were inspired to draw on current events in their cover and create a fun music video with a serious message. Here is ‘Smoke on Shearwater.’

I'll be getting him started on Griff's Classic Rock Guitar Unleashed shortly!
