On my way to Recovery

Annie

On my way
No...... not from drugs or compulsive shopping although my husband would disagree. I went to see another Doctor who is an Orthopedics Specialist for Hands. He said not to give up playing and that he could fix the problem. It was DeQuervains in my middle finger and wrist, most likely made worse by trauma to my wrist. It has been almost 2 weeks since my Surgery and I still have a long way to go till I am back to regular activities. I did start doing exercises for it the very first day.

The good news is that I got a Square Neck Dobro for my Birthday Present. So when I recover a little I can probably try to play that. It will be good when I go to the Jam here. It fits a lot better with the Banjo Mandoline and Concertina. There are way too many guitar players there anyway. I have a plan to switch off every other day with the Dobro and the Guitar to avoid overdoing it. I have been invited to sing at the Open Mike here too. I have spent some time learning Theory and also thinking about how to not be so fatalistic. Maybe I will learn to play Little Wing after all.

Great news, Annie! Here's hoping that you'll be able to pick up where you left off. It's no fun playing hurt. The Dobro sounds like a whole lot of fun and a great way to keep your head in the game!:thumbup:

Congrats Annie! On your road to recovery, stay positive, obey the speed limit and most of all, listen to that Doctor who told you not to quit. He sounds pretty smart! (y)

Good luck with your recovery and your new git.

Square neck Dobro....very cool. What brand? Any pics? What tuning do you have it in? I have more than a few lap steels.

Do you know how to play Dobro or are you going to look for online instruction?

If you need a recommendation for a good online tutorial site, I have one for you.

And/or recommendation for DVDs to learn from. Let me know

Fantabulous news Annie. Push it a little but not too much, ya know what I mean? I could use that voice of yours too in the near future if you've a mind.

Here is my new BFF. It is a Regal Black Lightning Square Neck Dobro. I only played it for a couple of weeks before my Surgery. I had it tuned to GBDGBD and learned I-IV -V in a few Keys. I also got down a basic Roll and spent some time and money:oops: finding the right Bar and picks. The book I am using is by Janet Davis. It has been fun.

Very cool! I was wondering if you also have Griff's slide course(s)? Seems like they'd be a good match!
