Does anyone know the type of wood used in a cabinet for an M1 18r combo?
I am thinking it might be MDF, but I am not a wood guy.

I think you're correct. Judging from the inside edges on my M1-18R (I have the large combo), it is an evenly layered composite with a very smooth finish, unlike either plywood or particleboard. Mine is definitely not solid wood.
