Wise man. I "crossed over" years ago (like a decade) and went all "gee whiz". Then spent years throwing most of it in the Dipsey Dumpster and arriving right back at a simple pedal board. I found that having thousands of options meant thousands of hours figuring them all out and thousands of endless hours fiddling, diddling, tweaking and un-tweaking. It got to the point where I wasn't actually even practicing any more but was instead just screwing around with my gear.
