Today, hopefully I have a little inspiration for you…

Sometimes it’s fun to just go on YouTube and search for Griff Hamlin or Blues Guitar Unleashed, and scroll down a couple of pages. Because when I do, I often find recordings of my students playing what they’ve learned.

Of course, they often post on the Blues Guitar Unleashed Member Forum as well, but not everyone does, and I like to try and keep up with everyone any way I can.

Plus, I need to give these guys their due for sticking with it and recording themselves and going for it!

So if you’re not sure if learning the blues is for you, maybe this’ll change your mind:

First, check out this guy playing Solo #6 (the last one) from Blues Guitar Unleashed (they aren’t all this difficult, I assure you, and he really nails it.)

This one is a solid attempt at solo 4. He’s taking some liberties… but hey, ain’t that what it’s all about?

And last, but certainly not least, this is one of our fearless forum moderators – and he wields the pink strap exceptionally well in this one which is his own doing. It was mostly just a test to see if he could play the same thing twice… and he pretty much nailed it both times. But the playing is so good I had to share. This is no particular lesson, he made this up based on a challenge we’re doing this month.

So, like I said, if you think you can’t learn the blues… these 3 are proof that you absolutely can, and it’ll be fun!

If you’re a beginning player, try Beginning Blues Guitar.

If you aspire to playing in a band environment like these guys (jam tracks count as a band) then definitely go for Blues Guitar Unleashed 2.0.

If you play solo (by yourself) then you’d probably prefer Acoustic Blues Guitar Unleashed.

And, if you want access to everything, I now have an All Access Pass option available if you prefer it all online in one place.

Thanks for stepping up – all three of you!! I have to agree that recording oneself really helps shorten the learning curve.

Griff- pretty cool to find people that are using your materials but are not posting in your forum.

The #2 guy looks like he is constantly referring to the tab. He should try to memorize it and then put some feeling into it. Just MHO. You have to start somewhere.

Agree with those that urge recording yourself. You will hear things you didn’t realize you were doing, also hear the improvement when you listen to old recordings.

Papa- that was sweet. You blew me away at Lake Arrowhead and this just confirms my impression from then.

      For the insight
Welldone enjoyed all three solos I must find time to get back into BGU courses
But no spare time at the moment to busy learning songs for the band I’ve joint 😎🎢

    • Dan

Great job all of these. Likewise you have inspired me to dig back into my BGU lessons. I tend to just play instead of organized lesson play. Thanks

    • Martin

Wow. Those were awesome! All excellent efforts and you could see the varying levels of expertise. It just shows that if we put in the time and effort, we can all improve. I want to get to the point of Mr. Pink Strap. He’s got some real skills. Nice job!!

Thanks for the encouraging videos. Was not sure how my own progress was going until I listened to a couple of solos I made the first year of bgu and then compared them to how I play now coming into my second year. There is a bigger difference in creativity and timing from when I started until now. Thanks griff.

I keep telling myself it can be done, now I am starting to believe it. At least my cat doesn’t run and hide when I pick up the guitar.

The “self audit” whether recording only audio or audio and video will help you more than you might think. Recording video is way better than just audio but recording audio is way better than nothing.

When you video record I think you will be surprised at what you will hear and see. You will see and hear stuff that you really like, but didn’t realize how much you liked it, and you will become more aware of it because you made the video and you’ll begin to really “own” those tasty licks.

You will also notice where to improve and it is helpful to SEE what you’re doing wrong so you can concentrate on correcting your technique. Sometimes I’m surprised how easy it is to see a mistake and fix it because of video instead of just playing through over and over making the same mistake each time through not quite knowing what exactly I’m doing wrong.

Another big benefit of recording is you can come back later and KNOW you’ve improved (assuming you keep practicing).

I love these videos. Great work and good on you all for setting up your cameras and hitting record before you started to play your songs.

Great job! You guys inspire me to get back to BGU I got side tracked. But you are all doing fantastic,

    • Ely McAvoy

Well done!! Great teaching and practice persistence shows what we can do. Thanks for sharing.

    • MikeS

Wow. These guys have inspired me to dig back into my BGU course. I’ve known the last guy (Pappa), for years and had no idea how well be can play.
