For whatever reason, we all have to spend some time away from our guitars…

It’s never fun, but it happens. Maybe it’s an injury, maybe it’s work travel…

Maybe it’s just that the kids have been sick and your time hasn’t been your own. It doesn’t matter, you want to get back to where you were as quickly, and safely, as possible.

So I’ll give you some suggestions on ways to build back up to the sort of practicing you were doing before you had to be away.

By the way, the course, Blues Speed Building Blocks, can be found at https://bluesguitarunleashed.com/get-blues-speed-building-blocks/

think this lesson will come in really handy in 10 to 12 weeks (that’s what the docs are telling me) after I recover from a broken left wrist. In the meantime I think I’ll do a lot of listening, unless you have some other ideas for me. BTW, love pretty much everything you do.

Congratulations on being recognized for all your hard work. I also want to thank you for all you’ve done for all of us to help make us better guitarists. All the videos and tid bits that you give away have helped all of us. Enjoy your success cause you deserve it.

I’ve developed arthritis in both hands which is making life a little difficult! I’ve been told to do hand exercises to improve the movement. Funny thing is I’ve found playing guitar seems to help a bit (obviously not stretching to much). But Griff’s exercises might help more I think!

Thanks again Griff for all your work and lessons I’ve been following (and buying) for 10 years now!

Congrats Griff on the Billboard honor. I look forward to your lessons every day — you are the blues master!

I am just getting over braking my arm. This lesson is just what I needed.
Thanks Grif. Congratulations On your album.

Congratulations, Griff. Well deserved and couldn’t happen to a nicer guy or better teacher. As a retired teacher I know how much it means to see something concrete achieved. Again, well done!

Congrats Griff! You are an awesome teacher and I have learned so much from you! Love your advice on getting back to the guitar 20 minutes at a time! I do the same thing when struggling with a new song that is more challenging than most I have learned, You and your band deserve the best!!

      Hi Griff
Congrats on the album and thanks so much this lesson! Like a couple of others have said, this is very timely; I broke my right wrist a few weeks ago and am still in a cast, so I haven’t been able to do any picking. I’ve been doing a little bit fingerpicking, but the cast really gets in the way. I’ve been left just doing fretting hand stuff like hammer-ons and pull-offs, plucking the string lightly with an available right-hand finger. The cast comes off in 2 weeks, so this lesson will help get me back in the groove.

Good timing for me too for this video . I’ve had to move all my gear to my storage bldg outside . Renovating to keep humidity and temp levels to accomadate guitars and amps and humans old humans 😩. Not easy in thibodaux la. So I’m taking the opportunity to soundproof and run better lighting . Been at it a week and haven’t played in that time grrrrrr. I’ll take your advise
And start back slow so I don’t get frustrated . Love your courses
And I’m a fan of your new album at least what I’ve heard so far .
I’ll be ordering it today . Tks to all you grown ups out there who appreciate real music . Most young people are really missing out too bad . I introduced my oldest son to blues and early rock when he was 13 , more than 25 years ago and he has stayed with it.
Wish I had ! I’ve been serious about it for 4 years or so and I hate missing a day of playing.

    • Gary L Hamby

Congratulations on #9!!! Well deserved indeed.

    • Keith Law

      What perfect timing.
I’ve only just started playing again yesterday .after 3 weeks due to injuring my ribs and I feel so clumsy, this is so helpful.
Many congratulations on your well deserved success and many thanks for all your help in this blog and from your courses

    • Stewart

      Congratulations Griff.

    • Layne

Congratulations for debuting at #9 on Billboard! I can’t think a guy who deserves it more than you. Thanks for all you do to help us on our guitar journey!
