Not too long ago I did a video about 9th chords… and in the middle of it I did a little funky blues thing that apparently caught some attention 🙂

I didn’t think much about it but I’ve had several requests for more of that – so here’s more, hope you dig it!

      Nice job as always Griff!
Love some funk and you explained it very well.
      I’m off to practice.

nice funk lesson. More like this would be great especially tips getting the strumming right. Been playing for years but just just cant get a fluid strum with my picking hand.

So glad to see a G&L ASAT doing what it does best. I’ve got a handful of those and they are so useful for this kind of work. Thanks for the lesson!

Rhythm Guitar Rules! There’s nothing better than laying down a solid groove and being in the pocket real tight with the drummer and bass player.

Thanks for this video and all your great lessons, Griff. By the way, I was listening to you playing “Someone” on BB King’s Bluesville yesterday on SiriusXM. Sounded so good and was cool to hear you on the radio…!

Actually this is the first I concentrated to listen to listen to funky blues. It is an upbeat rhythm to my liking, close to reggae. If one is allowed to play it faster, it will eve be closer to caribbean style. Wonder where this work funky came from, the meaning of it…Anyway, thank you .It was fun…

Great! I really dig it, I will start learning it right now, thanks man.

      Thanks Griff.
This funky stuff really gets my feet movin’. Cool lesson. Happy New Year to you and your family…

Hi Griff, love the funk and 9th chords! Thanks for this! Oh, I’ve found that a humidifier works great in very dry conditions- not only good for your skin and nasal passages but the added bonus is it’s really good for guitars as well!

    • Roxanne

Great Griff! Thank you for your continued inspiration!
Wishing you and yours the best New Year ever!!!

Killer. I love playing chords but never have quite like that. Will enjoy practicing what you showed. Thanks for the lesson. I have the blues guitar unleashed and am catching on to it. Quite a trip from country but liking the hell out of it. Never knew blues could be so much fun

    • Lessdrop

Kinda thought I was watching an old Bruce Lee movie with the sound delay over your strummin’. Cool😎

    • Gary Hylton

      Griff,

I think your “little blues funk tune” would be a cool way for us guys in a band to introduce the members of the band!

Thanks Griff! Excellent stuff. I’ve always been a bit confused about using the “right” 9th chords for the “funk” sound.
You’re use of all these “little” chords is very enlightening…and sound GREAT, too!

    • DaveyJoe

This is very cool Griff! Something to work on for a few days. Something the band might do in the “Club” just before a break. Thanks for the lesson.

Bring on the funk – bring on the Griff! Love me some 9th chords with attitude ! Thanks so much…

      Hi Griff

First of all I hope you and your family have a great year in 2018 (and many more of course!) and thank you for all the brilliant tuition to date.

I’m having difficulty matching the tab to the timing of the strums – is it me or is does the tab need adjusting slightly?

      Cheers
      Al

      • Griff

Funk is hard to notate because of the constant right hand. The rests often become “scratches” and there’s a bit of a swing to it as well. Count it with me in the video and you’ll get it.

        • Al Heyes

          Cheers Griff. Counting rules, OK!

    • Mark Wales uk

      Cheers Griff
enjoyed the lesson as always love that new guitar telecaster with stratocaster pick ups nice
I’m on the lookout for a USA stratocaster if anyone is giving one away lol 😎🎶
