Earlier today I went on Facebook for a little live Q&A session (plus some playing and teaching, of course) and ended up hanging for about an hour!
Obviously I don’t always have so much free time, but it was a great session and I think we covered a lot of good things.

In the video, we first talked about ear training, then some about Pentatonic and Blues scales, and then I just took some questions. We also talked a lot about course suggestions, so if you’re not sure what to get next (or where to get started) be sure to watch that section.

I have realized that I need to be able to solo according to chords or just in the key scale. My knowledge of the various forms of chords is lacking. I just know about 2-3 variances for most of the major and minor, not the greater expression chords, like SUS2, SUS4, DIM& Etc. How am I supposed to design a solo once I know the progression? Should I just put in more time learning those other chords, then move on to soloing?
Being unable to get on Facebook live at the time you were on, I watched the copy of it you put in your email. The only problem with that is that when you were reading the questions before your response, I couldn’t hear them because you were sometimes mumbling through it (like we all do sometimes). Hey…this is a learning curve for all of us. REALLY ENOYED IT and got a lot out of it. Many more to come I hope.

Being a Limey I didn’t know about this facebook stuff! What I would like to ask Griff is this. I’ve watched your free lessons online for a while, and find you an excellent and clear teacher. I’m now fairly good at scales etc, but would like to know if you sell any courses that deal in some depth with song writing. I’d like to learn the theory that helps me turn single note melody lines into accompanying chords, and vice versa. In other words, having decided on a tune, how do I decide on and identify the correct chords?
