Sometimes it’s easy to miss the forest for the trees… so I like to point out times when you can take something that you might already have down, and show you how it can be used in a different way.

So in today’s video I’m picking on the lowly solo 1 from Blues Guitar Unleashed. It doesn’t get a lot of love because it’s the first solo and it’s fairly easy to learn and then forget about. But hopefully, with what you’ll see today, you might want to revisit it (or take the time to learn it in the first place 🙂

And, of course, if you don’t have Blues Guitar Unleashed this may not seem as useful to you… but I encourage you to watch anyway. The technique and ideas that I’ll use here would apply to any solo you learn or any licks you learn that are in a straight feel.

Now… if you are asking for the TAB to this solo, it’s here.

And if you want to download this video – MP4 | WMV

Thank you Griff, I’ll try that on my next practice session. I have the 5 easy blues solo course and it came with the 5 X 5 jam tracks. I’ll try to use that technique . Can I try that with any solo in that course?
      Thank you
      Alexander .

        Absolutely! Works with anything.

Great video and lesson Griff. By the way, what Brand is the guitar that you are playing. I couldn’t make out the name. Looks like it says Sister but I don’t think that is correct.

It’s a Suhr, Jerry. Great guitars.

      Thanks Griff!

      Griff
The lesson was a great explanation and demonstration of the difference of the swing beat as compared to the straight beat. Thanks again. It really helped me. You are the best.

Great timing as I am just working through Lesson 22 in BGU. I hope you will keep sharing examples like this that leverage the course material but in new ways … increased ROI! Keep up the great work!

Huh….watched it again & it was perfectly synched. Same for the download. It’s perfect the 2nd time around. No idea what the problem was. I suspect the glitch is on my end. Weird. Sorry for the 1st message.

      Hi Griff,
Not sure if I’m the only one experiencing this: At about 1:02 in, the video & audio don’t sync. I downloaded it as an MP4 & same thing happens on Quicktime. I’ll take a look at it later to see if the glitch is on my end.
It’s a great idea & certainly points out how the stolen licks you’ve discussed lately can be adapted to other feels & uses…..even if the stolen licks are your own! Cheers!

I am about to revisit BGU course and go through it again from start.
This vid is a great motivation to do that.
I’ve got to say that after about a year and a half now, your videos and courses keep increasing my level of passion for playing blues.
I took your advise some time ago and started practicing every day and I’ve improved dramatically, so much so that each night when I go to bed I’m looking forward to waking up and going through my solos and scales.
      Love ya work!

      backing track for this?

    • David Pelletier

Hi Grif. That’s for your continuing inspiration. You make it sound so easy. There’s nothing wrong with being confident and staying focused. Waiting for your next video. Dave in Massachusetts.

Hi Griff, this is a great video; it’s amazing how different the same notes sound with the different feel!! What you said about 16th notes in swing time is interesting too. Cheers from Australia, ChrisG.

      Wow!
I haven’t revisited this in years!
      Now, I’m sorry I haven’t!
I forgot how “tasty” your guitar work is.
      Thanks for the refresher, Griff!

Thanks for this video. Amazing as always what you can do with a guitar. The way you explain and present yourself is a great talent. Larry
