Bending More Effectively

Today’s short video is not a complete bending tutorial, but more aimed at you if you can sort of bend, but they don’t always seem to make sense.

There are reasons we bend, and sometimes there are reasons we don’t 😉

Your job is to understand the difference between the two… and why we bend notes…

Hi Griff, That really makes a lot of sense.
For someone like me who is fairly inexperienced I try to just learn a song by rote without putting too much of my own ‘style’ into it because I generally just mess it up. So I put bends in where they originally were in the song without understanding any of the technicalities of what I’m actually doing.
Just a few questions though, does this all apply to half or quarter bends, or what about adding vibrato? Is it musically wrong to put bends anywhere you want or is it just down to the mechanical construction of the guitar?
    Cheers

Nice video Griff, thank-you. Does anyone bend the A string un a half step to get to the blues note, that’s only a half bend and not hard to do on the fifth string?

Such a knowledgeable & personal guy. I love his teaching style. He always has great lessons that personally resonate with me, a novice player in my 60’s.

I am currently enrolled in the CAGED Course. I always look forward to Griff’s emails because I know there is something new that I will learn. His simple way of introducing new concepts makes learning fun.

Your info always helps to guide me as a beginner even if I can’t do any of it later down the road who knows. I have been trying to figure out this bending stuff for ever now. When I try it all I get is dead air sound nothing. I don’t know if it is my type of guitar or maybe I need some pedals who knows. Some day i’ll Figure it out.

You don’t need pedals buddy. Just the willingness to keep going. Oh and maybe get your guitar set up by a pro, it may be that your guitar neck needs adjustment. Good luck!
